Wisdom River Gallery History
This is the "Land of 10,000 Haystacks", and you have arrived at the Wisdom River Gallery. You may have heard about us. You probably have read about us. But you likely have never driven by us. Yet.
We're about as far removed from where you are as anybody can be. Located in southwestern Montana's stunning and remote Big Hole Valley, we’re at 6028 feet altitude in the high plains of the majestic Rocky Mountains. Very few people live here. But most people who visit wish they did.
Since the early 1800's The Wisdom River Gallery owned and operated by Daryll and Kay Jacobson had its humble beginnings in an old log cabin 25 years ago. By 1984 the Gallery’s success forced a move to its present location on the occasionally bustling Main Street of tiny Wisdom, Montana. Population: 99.
Or so.
Do you maybe wonder how an exclusive Montana gallery could have grown and prospered for so long in one of the most remote areas of the United States? Hmmm.
Owner Daryll Jacobson is a Montana cowboy.
Daryll's also a master wood craftsman. His intuitive sense of design first enabled him to remodel the former Basin Mercantile building into this notable gallery. And then prompted him to start turning out masterworks of original handcrafted furniture. Soon, a few escapist western travelers began wandering through the valley. They apparently noticed what a neat place this was. Word spread quick.
It's not L.A.
It sure isn't Manhattan.
It's just pure Wisdom.
The imposing Wisdom River Gallery structure, with beamed ceilings and barn wood walls, lends itself to fascinating charm and classic western style, creating a wonderful showcase for Western life…today and yesterday.
But Daryll is not the sole talent of this gallery… his wife Kay has an artisan's eye for design, interior decoration and floral arrangement. And, she has impeccable taste. Just check the myriad displays throughout Wisdom River Gallery.
This ever changing exhibition of contemporary and Old West Montana life and style remains open to the public, even through the heavy snows of Big Sky winters.
Please plan a stop in remote Wisdom, Montana on your own journey west. We don't have many visitors. We just have many visitors who specifically plan their vacations around a stop at our Gallery.
Whatever the season, you are a special guest here! The Wisdom River Gallery should be a locked-in stop on your tour of our American West. Get out your map and start planning your next great adventure…to the Big Hole Valley of Montana. You will never forget it!
