Who and Where We Are
Our town’s name traces back to Lewis and Clark (see History) and our 99 hardy citizens fully grasp their spirit of adventure. We’re up in the Big Sky sage at 6028 feet.
Make no mistake: we’re remote. But by any standard Wisdom and the Big Hole Valley is one of the most spectacular, undiscovered locations in this nation.
Here you’ll find constant drama in the skies, mountain wilderness, premier fly-fishing, back road driving, squeaky snow, creaky ghost towns, leather-face cowboys, and a Southwestern Montana spirit of conversation that warms the soul in any season. USA TODAY calls us one of 10 Great Places to Find Hope, Comfort and Justice.
You can discover more about the people, the history, the commerce and the tourism of this region in the pages that follow.
