Now here's what we don't have: Discos or Fast Food or Wal-Mart or comparative price gas stations. We don’t exactly, precisely have any of those.
We do have The Antlers Bar and Conover’s General Store. We're a cowboy town don't you know.
There’s a grocery store and Larry’s automotive. A gas station a motel and two good restaurants.
And then there’s the Gallery. My oh my, who would ever think a highfalutin Gallery could prosper here for 25 years.
We have a long wide empty Main Street.
There’s a stand-up pay phone there in the middle of town where you never have to wait to talk. Or you can sit on the bench because the phone cord reaches three feet. No cell service. Not that many locals to call.
But Dude, this is Montana. And what a magnificent and strange and wonderful place this is. It’s a bit of a twilight zone escape for many people. But they keep on trickling through in winter or summer.
Come here if you love bam-zoom incredible scenery, dramatic weather, frequent risk, and occasional peril. Come here for the scent of high plains sagebrush and fresh cut grass hay. Come here for immediate friendly.
This is a place where you feel your heart thump, see your breath breathe and sense your feet exploring on their own. The snow crunches. The rivers sing. This is a good place for a life.
